Happy New Year, Columbia Families!

I hope winter break provided time to rest, reconnect, and enjoy meaningful moments together. At home, I appreciated the slower pace and the chance to spend extra time with my wife and our two children, now ages 8 and 5. Those moments are a good reminder of how much children grow in small but important ways.

At Columbia, our staff has the privilege of seeing that growth every day. Teachers thoughtfully observe students, adjust instruction, and provide support to ensure each child continues moving forward. The months from January through early spring are often the most productive of the school year—routines are established, relationships are strong, and students are ready for deep learning. Research shows this period can lead to significant academic growth when high-quality instruction is in place.

In addition to academics, we continue to emphasize social-emotional learning. Skills such as empathy, problem solving, and emotion management help students succeed both in and out of the classroom. Consistent instruction and shared language allow students to practice these skills daily, and family conversations at home help reinforce this learning.

Thank you for your partnership and support. I look forward to the growth we’ll see in our students over the coming months.

Warmly,
Mr. Denton

Curious About School Delays or Cancelations?

Curious About School Delays or Cancelations? School may be delayed or canceled because of weather conditions or other events. Bus routes may also be affected by unsafe travel conditions. The district communicates school closures and delays in a variety of ways including phone calls, emails and text messages to families. That means it is important to keep contact information up to date with your child’s school. Additionally, we post information on our district website, social media spaces and to local TV and radio stations. Learn more about staying informed during weather events by clicking THIS LINK.
