A Note From Our Principal:

Greetings Columbia Families,

As the school year gets underway, our teachers are intentionally building strong relationships with their students. We know that when students feel connected to their teachers and classmates, they are more engaged, enjoy school more, and are better positioned to learn and grow.

The same is true for the partnership between home and school. November conferences provide a valuable opportunity for families and teachers to come together, share perspectives, and collaborate in support of each child. Conferences are a chance for you to share information about your child that may help their teacher better understand their strengths, interests, learning styles, and past experiences. They are also an opportunity to ask questions and gain insight into your child’s academic and social growth at school.

Parents bring an important perspective to these conversations. You know your child best, and your insights can help teachers better support their learning journey. In turn, teachers thoughtfully prepare to share observations, progress, and goals. In some classrooms, students will also participate in conferences, creating an even richer opportunity for reflection, ownership, and collaboration.

This year, conferences begin on Monday, November 23, and take place during the three days leading up to Thanksgiving.

With a little preparation, conferences can be meaningful and productive for everyone involved. If you have not yet scheduled a conference, please look for information from your child’s teacher and select a time that works for your family. As you prepare, consider what questions you would like to ask and what information you would like to share. Be sure to check out the article, “Getting the Most Out of Conferences,” from our website.

The opportunity to better understand and support your child’s growth is truly a gift. Thank you for partnering with us as we work together to help every Columbia student thrive.

Warm regards,
Mr. Denton

  • At Columbia Elementary School, the proposed projects focus on safety and security, technology infrastructure, and replacement of aging building systems and playground. Many other schools will also benefit from this bond.
